His House – Netflix Film Review

his house

Rating: 4 out of 5.

His house is a beautifully crafted movie with exceptional performances from both the lead actors and genuine jump scares to be had

“His house” is a 2020 Netflix horror film following the story of a refugee couple who have fled the War-torn Sudan with hopes of finding asylum in the UK.  The director Remi Weekes, making his directorial debut, produces a very spine-tingling horror thriller that stars ‘Wunmi Mosaku, Sope Dirisu and our very own Doctor Who, Matt Smith.

As the story follows the couple and how they adjust to their new lives, they soon start to experience strange and disturbing things happening within’ the house which they have been given to live in. Could there be something living in the house with them?

His house is a beautifully crafted movie with exceptional performances from both the lead actors. They are able to portray the fright that is felt when things start happening around the house and there are genuine jump scares to be had.

The story is paced very well with a run-time of 93 minutes, and it does not waste a second of it. The beginning of the film gives you slight insight into how the couple have gotten to the UK and as soon as the scares begin, you are on the edge of your seats. It also has a nice little twist towards the end of the film that I did not see coming. It makes you question whether you should feel sorry for the couple or not.

A very well put together film which received high praise when it was first shown at the Sundance Film Festival at the beginning of the year. It is definitely worth a watch. You will never look at your walls in the same way again.

I give this film
