Icons, Ballads, Action and Horror – It’s all here in May 2026 Most Wanted Movies!

It’s springtime, and May 2026 is bringing a glorious mix of film genres to satisfy most movie tastes

Hey film fans, it’s Dani from We Talk Film with the May 2026 edition of Most Wanted Movies, and to be honest with you, it might seem like a really dry month for new releases, but a few tent-pole blockbusters are coming out, so let’s take a look at them

The Devil Wears Prada 2

The first of those is probably one of the most anticipated new movies of the year, and that is The Devil Wears Prada 2 (trailer), which is out in cinemas on May 1st. It’s been a whole 20 years since the original, when we saw Anne Hathaway’s Andy being terrorised by the ultimate boss bitch, Meryl Streep.

In those 20 years since the original movie, Andy has left the fashion world to become a serious journalist, but now she is coming back in to try and save Runway Magazine, which is failing to maintain its readership in the digital age. Now, like every single one of these many years later sequels, I’m of the opinion that I don’t know that we need this. I hope it’s gonna be good.

I like that we’ve got all the original cast back, you’ve got Meryl Streep, you’ve got Stanley Tucci, you’ve got Emily Blunt
Then a whole host of new, fashionable, gorgeous people. I do hope it’s gonna be good. I think the first one is an all-time great
Female empowerment movie, and it’s really enjoyable, but I just don’t know if we needed this new version. Hopefully, we do

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu

Next up, a new edition in one of the world’s biggest franchises, there is a new Star Wars movie out in May 2026. It’s out on the 22nd, it’s The Mandalorian and Grogu. This is a movie follow-up to the Disney+ Mandalorian series about Pedro Pascal’s bounty hunter Din Jaren and his adorable sidekick Grogu, who we all know better as Baby Yoda again, what’s not to like, good fun stuff
I think the series dropped off a little bit towards the end, but it’s still very enjoyable

I think last year, around 2025, we may have hit peak Pedro Pascal saturation. There was a moment where he was in three movies that were all out in the same week, but I haven’t seen his face for a little while. I think he’s a great actor. I think he’s very likeable
, so I’m excited to see him back on my big screen with all those classic Star Wars creature effects, and my god, having John Favreau knew what he was doing with the merchandising opportunities, because we’re gonna have a whole other year of adorable baby Yoda merchandise appearing on everyone’s wishlists

Sneaking into my top selections for this month, we’ve got a couple of movies that are the sort of thing that, just based on the trailer and the premise alone, I might not have given them a second thought. When you do a little bit of digging into who’s behind these movies, I’m much more interested

Normal

The first of these is out on May 15th, it’s called Normal, it stars Bob Odenkirk from Better Call Saul and Lena Headey from Game of Thrones. Bob plays a small-town sheriff who moves into a new town for a new posting. Everything seems normal on the surface, and he very soon uncovers a massive criminal conspiracy

There’s the Mafia, there’s the Yakuza, there’s guns and bombs and explosions, and of course, he’s surprisingly good at martial arts! This is written by Derek Colestad who is the creator of the John Wick series and directed by Ben Wheatley who’d made loads of really interesting stylish psychedelic weird films uh in the early 20 he did sightseeers in a field in England his more recent work is a bit more commercial less weird more palatable but this looks like a lot of fun, Think Fargo meets Hot Fuzz meets John Wick and that seems like Normal, it looks like a lot of fun

Power Ballad

also on my surprise films is a film called Power Ballad which is out on May 29th now you will watch this trailer and you will see Nick Jonas and you will wonder why on earth I would ever be recommending a film with Nick Jonas in it because yes I’ve seen Camp Rock 1 and two I don’t think that guy is a great actor but this is a movie by John Carney who is one of my all time favourite filmmakers an Irish uh filmmaker musician who made once and sing street he is a filmmaker of serious quality, making great musical comedy dramas

This stars Paul Rudd, who is a washed-up, failed musician who, many years ago, had a late-night jam session with a young pop star. Now, many years in the future, he realises that the popstar has used his song to become a best-selling mega artist, and he wants the credit for it. You can rely on good music and heartwarming vibes. I’ll be checking that one out
