Best Picture/Best director

I think its finally his year and Nolan & Oppenheimer (review) will sweep this. I desperately want Yorgos and Poor Things (review) to sweep this though, Oppenheimer is NOT Nolans best work, whereas Poor Things is really in a crazy class of its own.

Best Actor

Cillian Murphy is a shoe in, i think this is basically a one horse race. Giamatti may be the dark horse but I don’t think he stands a chance

Best Actress

It’s funny, for the whole past 6 months I thought Lily Gladstone had it in the bag, but the buzz for Emma Stone at some of the earlier award shows now makes me certain she’s coming for her second oscar.

Best supporting actor

I think RDJ will scoop this, its a classic, safe awards season performance. I’d prefer Ryan Gosling to win personally – comedy performances are so rarely recognised at the oscars and he smashed it out of the park

Supporting actress

All the buzz is for Da’Vine Joy Randolph, she’s swept the earlier awards and is probably most critics favourite. I’m gunning for America Ferrera though, her powerful Barbie monologue has been doing the rounds on social media over and over again. I think the academy will go for her

Worst snubs

Absolutely bewildering thats theres no nominations for All of Us Strangers (review), Scott, Mescal and Haigh all deserve to be there

The Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie omissions is too much. There’s no Ken without Barbie people

Past Lives gets a best picture nom, but expected to see Greta Lee up for actress. France bewilderingly didn’t submit Anatomy of a Fall for Best international (which it would have won.) It’s scored a nomination for best picture despite this (which it won’t win.)

Zone of Interest is all but guaranteed for best international now
