JOKER 2 Folie à Deux Trailer: Crazy in Love
(Update: New Trailer) Joaquin Phoenix & Lady Gaga bring their Bad Sad Romance to the Big Screen in Joker 2 Folie à Deux
Joker was a a low budget surprise hit for Warner Bros/DC in 2019 and while the Director Todd Phillips and its star Joaquin Phoenix promised they had no intention of continuing the story, here we are almost five years later with a highly anticipated sequel, Joker 2 or its proper title, JOKER: Folie à Deux.
So why ‘Folie à Deux’ rather than Joker 2? Folie à Deux is french and means ‘folly of two’, or in common terms, a shared madness. Its a rare psychiatric syndrome in which a delusional belief or hallucination can be ‘transmitted’ from one individual to another. This is particularly interesting as I recall some of the discussions I had with friends after the first movie, relating to what parts of the movie were real and what parts may have occured in Arthur Fleck’s mind
Like the original, Joker 2 falls outside the general ‘DCU’ timeline of films, and exists in what has been named ‘DCE’, meaning DC Elseworlds. Standalone films like this and ‘The Batman 2’ will exist outside DC’s general slate of films, which is great news for many of us, as that means: No Shared Universe! The DCE might end up being the secret weapon or jewel in the Warner Bros crown.
As a big fan of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, I was quite dissapointed at the announcement of Lady Gaga as Harley. Nothing against gaga, I just felt Margot nailed the comical interpretation of the character. Like many, I was quite curious for the first trailer, secretly waiting to comment on how Gaga could never be a better Harley Quinn than Margot. Will there be heated discussions like the ones that followed the first Joker movie about whose the best Joker, Ledger or Phoenix?

Back then, I settled on the fact they were equally brilliant but different enough to stand apart as unique interpretations of the same character. From the first trailer for Joker Folie à Deux, I suspect I might come away with the same feelings about Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn – As always, Life is a Stage and we live in hope!
Joker: Folie à Deux hits screens this October
