Online Dating takes a Dangerous turn this April in Drop

Online dating can be a horror show at the best of times, but in ‘Drop’, it’s actually a question of murder! When widow Violet finally agrees to take advice and go on a date with someone she met online, things go from wonderful to terrible very quickly

Drop is what I’d describe as a ‘mystery murder movie’ because no one has been killed yet, we don’t know who is on the other end of the phone line giving instructions, and the end goal is to convince the protagonist to commit murder

The trailer for Drop managed to capture my imagination and, judging by the number of views, the imagination of a lot of other people as well. It’s designed to emphasise how our technology can be used to terrify us and people we hold dear.

The set up of the film reminded me a lot of the recent Netflix hit Carry On, where a mysterious voice professes to see everything and gives nefarious orders over the phone with deadly consequences if instructions are not followed. ‘Carry On’ was set in an airport, ‘Drop” is set in mainly within a Restuarant, during a first date.

It should be interesting to see how this mystery unfolds and how far Violet will go to keep her family safe as well as find out who is behind this plot, even though I already have my own suspicions!

Drop hits cinemas on April 11th
